He is an expert in zebrafish mutagenesis, molecular biology, zebrafish genomics, detection of induced mutations in specific genes of interest, and has an exceptional understanding of genetics, neurobiology, and developmental biology. He is generating the mutations in the zebrafish orthologues of Stargardt genes that are associated with juvenile macular degeneration in humans, and are crucial and central to your R21 proposal. Many of your colleagues have recognized Dr. Willoughby as an expert in the new technology of genome engineering using CRISPR/cas9. I understand that a continuation of his appointment is crucial to the success of your grant and future funding prospects.
