ACTIVITY THAT SERVES A LEGITIMATE PUBLIC PURPOSE Describe the activity About the State Innovation Exchange: which is the reason for traveling. The State Innovation Exchange, SiX, is a new effort to move progressive state and local policies by combining the efforts and resources of the Progressive States Network, the American Legislative & Issue Campaign Exchange (ALICE), and the Center for State Innovation. For over 40 years, the progressive movement has suffered from a power deficit in state government. The right wing has built a well-funded and highly capitalized network of conservative organizations that develops and promotes state legislation in service to corporate funders and interests. Progressives have been too reactive to the passage of these bad laws and largely ineffective in closing this ever-widening state power gap. The mission of SiX is to create and maintain a policy, communications, and political infrastructure that supports long-term progressive policy gains in the states and beyond, focusing the goals of progressives more on our communities, and less on Washington DC. About the SIX Conference: This gathering will provide a unique opportunity to network with legislators, policy experts, Administration officials, members of Congress, and others on pressing issues facing states this upcoming legislative session. The conference will also feature a series of briefings and trainings by prominent national leaders and organizations intended to provide legislators with an opportunity to enhance skills around messaging, communications, social media, and policy, as well as how to utilize the resources of this newly formed organization. Finally, we will offer several half-day workshops facilitated by issue experts, strategists, and others on issue areas such as wages, clean energy, education reform, and more.
